O Oscar para melhor actriz tem na sua disputa 5 talentos incríveis, desde a actriz com mais nomeações na história da academia à mais recente musa de David Fincher, passando pela Marylin Monroe dos dias de hoje. 5 Das mais brilhantes estrelas de Hollywood congratularam-nos com desempenhos arrebatadores, mas apenas uma irá ganhar o Oscar.

Comecemos pela veterana: Meryl Streep dispensa apresentações, a sua primeira nomeação ao Oscar foi há 33 anos, a sua primeira vitoria há 32 por “Kramer contra Kramer” e desde então arrecadou um total de 2 Oscars e a extraordinária quantia de 17 nomeações. A mais recente foi graças à sua interpretação arrebatadora de Margaret Thatcher, desempenho esse que já lhe valeu um Globo de Ouro e um Bafta. Em “A Dama de Ferro” Meryl Streep encarna cada tique e expressão de Margaret de uma forma surpreendente, os elogios da critica foram inúmeros e o Oscar parece ser lhe destinado. Uma terceira vitória é muito merecida, e é ainda mais merecida se tivermos em conta o seu excelente percurso da actriz.

Rooney Mara é a novata do grupo, esta é a sua primeira nomeação ao Oscar que advém do seu primeiro grande papel. A sua composição como Lisbeth Salander é deliciosamente negra e o resultado disso foi a capacidade com que conseguiu tornar-se a grande protagonista de “Millenium 1: Os Homens que Odeiam as Mulheres”. Confesso que me tornei um enorme fã de Rooney e que por mim ela ganhava, mas o meu lado racional e critico diz-me que não vai ser bem assim. Contudo, já por inúmeras vezes vimos actrizes que na sua primeira nomeação arrecadaram o prémio mesmo com concorrência feroz, Reese Whitherspoon foi uma delas.

Glenn Close regressa à corrida aos Oscars 23 anos depois da sua última nomeação, esta é a sexta na sua carreira, onde um Oscar ainda não consta. “Albert Nobbs” é o nome não só do filme como do personagem que a trouxe de volta ao grupo das melhores. Um desempenho acima de tudo comovente, onde dá vida a uma mulher que teve de esconder a sua identidade e fazer passar-se por homem para conseguir sobreviver. Glenn Close é o motor do filme. Esta interpretação razoavél já lhe valeu uma nomeação a um Globo de Ouro e quanto ao Oscar as opiniões dividem-se.Glenn tirou o lugar a Tilda Swinton, que na minha opinião tem uma performance arrebatadora em "Precisamos de Falar sobre o Kevin".

Viola Davis é uma das fortes candidatas ao Oscar; a sua Aibileen Clark encheu-nos o coração, e apesar de já terem passado uns meses desde que vi o filme ainda me permanece na mente a cena em que Aibileen está com uma menina ao colo e lhe diz com uma ternura desmesurada “ You is Kind. You is smart. You is important”. Penso que o facto de esta cena ainda me permanecer na cabeça nos diz bastante da profundidade da sua interpretação. Esta Aibileen já valeu a Viola um SAG Award, a nomeação ao Globo de Ouro e ao Bafta. Esta é a sua segunda nomeação ao Oscar, em 2008 foi nomeada pelo deu papel em “Dúvida” ao lado de Meryl Streep. 

Michelle Williams conta com esta 3 nomeações. O seu desempenho como Marylin Monroe está subtilmente estupendo. A graciosidade do maior icone de beleza de sempre foi adquirida magistralmente por aquela que se assume como a melhor actriz da sua geração. Michelle Williams é a definição de talento e beleza. Duvido que alguém conseguisse fazer este papel melhor que ela. Mais cedo ou mais tarde um Oscar irá ter com ela e se não for este muitas mais oportunidades irão aparecer.

O concensso não foi ainda antigido quanto à favorita, podendo ser nesta categoria que se dê a maior surpresa da noite. Meryl Streep tem todas as condições para levar o Oscar mas, a concorrência é pesada. Se fosse votante o meu voto cairia ou na Rooney ou Michelle.

Let’s start with the veteran: Meryl Streep dismisses presentations, the first  Oscar nomination was 33 years ago, her first victory was 22 years ago for “Kramer vs. Kramer and since then, she has won a total of 2 Oscars and the extraordinary number of 17 nominations. The most recent was due to the amazing part as Margaret Thatcher, and that performance made her win a Golden Globe and a Bafta. In “The Iron Lady”, Meryl Streep embodies every expression of Margaret, in a surprising way, the critics were numerous and the Oscar seems to be destined. A third victory is very well-deserved, and even more deserved if we take in consideration her excellent journey as an actress.

Rooney Mara is the rookie of the group, as this is her first Oscar nomination that comes from her first big part. Her interpretation as Lisbeth Salander is deliciously dark and the result of it was the ability with which she was able to become the big leading actress of “The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo”. I confess I became a huge fan of Rooney and, for me, she should win everything, but then, my rational and critic side tells me that it shouldn’t be like this. However, for several times, we have seen actresses that, in their first nomination, won the award, despite the fierce competition, and Reese Whitherspoon was one of them.

Glenn Close is back on the running for the Oscars 23 years after her last nomination, this is the sixth of her career, in which an Oscar isn’t listed. “Albert Nobbs” isn’t just the name of the movie. It’s also the name of the character that brought Glenn back to the top. A performance especially moving, where she plays a woman that had to hide her identity and pretend to be a man to able to survive. Glenn Close is the engine of the movie. This good interpretation as made her win a Golden Globe nomination and, about the Oscars, opinions divide.

Viola Davis is a strong contender to the Oscar; her Aibileen Clark filled our heart, and though it has been some months since last I saw the movie, I still have in mind the scene where Aibileen has a little girl on her lap and tells her, with such tenderness “You is Kind. You is smart. You is important”. I think that the fact that I still have this image in mind, tells u show deep was her performance. This Aibileen has made Viola win a SAG Award, the nomination to both Golden Globes and BAFTA. This is her second nomination to the Oscar; in 2008 she was nominated for her part in “Doubt”, side by side to Meryl Streep.

Michelle Williams has now her third nomination. Her performance as Marylin Monroe is subtly wonderful. The grace of  the greatest icon  of beauty of all time was masterfully acquired by the one who assumes herself as the best actress of her generation. Michelle Williams is the definition of beauty and talent. I doubt the existence of any other woman for this role. Sooner or later, an Oscar will come to her, and if this isn’t the year, other opportunities will come.

There’s not an agreement towards the favorite, being this the category where can happen the biggest surprise of the night. Meryl Streep has all the conditions to win the Oscar, however, the competition is fierce. If I could vote, I would vote on either Rooney or Michelle.
